Weaving Webs for Work
The
Nungalinya College Family and Community Studies
Department has delivered training to indigenous people
from remote communities for over 30 years. The team at
FACS have expertise in identifying barriers to learning
for Indigenous people and in developing methods and
tools to overcome these barriers.
FACS in consultation with the Shire Council staff of
various communities, have developed the Weaving Webs for
Work program. This is provided within a safe learning
environment at Nungalinya College.
The course currently offered is 40512SA: Certificate 1
in Introductory Vocational Education (IVEC). Comprised
of Preliminary, Foundation and Certificate Levels, the
course enables the College to provide a high standard of
quality education in literacy and numeracy, tailored to
individual needs.
A strong focus is on holistic development of the
individual in acquiring personal skills and building
relationships and networks as further pathways to
continued education and employment.
The team at FACS includes a Yolnu Cultural Advisor to
support and assist students.
The program

Units from the IVEC Certificate 1
Life skills development and experiences
Managing personal income/relationships
Promoting confidence in speaking English
Work experience
A Bi-Cultural learning facility
