Jesus carries the Cross

John 19: 6, 15-17 CEV

When the chief priests and the temple police saw him, they yelled, “Nail him to a cross! Nail him to a cross!”

Pilate told them, “You take him and nail him to a cross! I don’t find him guilty of anything.”

“Kill him! Kill him!” they yelled. “Nail him to a cross!”

“So you want me to nail your king to a cross?” Pilate asked.

The chief priests replied, “The Emperor is our king!” Then Pilate handed Jesus over to be nailed to a cross.

Station 7 - Jesus carries the Cross

Mark 15:20-22

When the soldiers had finished making fun of Jesus, they took off the purple robe. They put his own clothes back on him and led him off to be nailed to a cross. Simon from Cyrene happened to be coming in from a farm, and they forced him to carry Jesus' cross. Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus. The soldiers took Jesus to Golgotha, which means “Place of a Skull.”

Eva has been attending Nungalinya for many years and completed her Certificate IV in Theology last year. She was keen to continue her studies so signed up for the arts course.

Eva has not painted before so she enjoyed learning some new skills to express her love for Christ and the stories of the Bible.

Simon helps Jesus

Jesus talks to the Women

Luke 23: 27-31 CEV

A large crowd was following Jesus, and in the crowd a lot of women were crying and weeping for him. Jesus turned to the women and said:

Women of Jerusalem, don’t cry for me! Cry for yourselves and for your children. Someday people will say, “Women who never had children are really fortunate!” At that time everyone will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” They will say to the hills, “Hide us!” If this can happen when the wood is green, what do you think will happen when it is dry?

Rosiena has been creating art for several years. Although she has not painted much, she loves to try her hand at many different crafts.

She is inspired by Creation and particularly her connection to the coast as a saltwater woman.

Joanne first attended Nungalinya 20 years ago in the first arts program studying textiles. Joanne was excited to return and enjoyed the opportunity to grow her drawing and painting skills and faith alongside other Christian artists. The arts course has provided time and space to deepen her faith, connect her to her people and land and experiment with different mediums and techniques. Joanne is keen to continue studying art to grow her skills, establish her style and share her faith and culture through her creativity. She is also passionate to preserve her language and culture and be involved in translation of the Scriptures into Ngarla Njamal.
